Chosen Solution
Whenever I click on a file or folder on my desktop, the system makes a sound and won’t allow me to open or access anything there. Has anyone had this happen? I do need to replace my battery.
I’m suspecting you have a file structure corruption! Restart your system and press Command (⌘)-R to enter macOS Recovery services. Once you’re in you want to use the Menu bar to get to Disk Utility, then enter into Disk First-Aid to repair your drive. Reference: Mac startup key combinations That should fix things.
