Hi, Does this happen on all the USB ports in the PC? Have you proved that there is power on the USB port by plugging in a USB mouse or a phone and check if the mouse’s laser light turns on or if the phone indicates that it is charging? If there is no power on the USB ports the pendrive won’t work. Go to Device Manager - Universal serial bus controllers - click on > to expand the list - right click on USB Root Hub - Properties - Power Management and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” - OK. Do this for all the Root Hub entries shown. Then restart the laptop in the normal manner and check if the pendrive is now detected. To get to Device Manager in Win10, press the Win key and the x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link that shows in the options menu. Here’s an image that shows what it looks like. It is from my desktop PC but the USB Root Hub Power Management settings are the same for Windows OS.

Sounds like a board issue rather than a PC issue. If you can open the drive and check the solder joints on the board at the connector. These can dry out and crack over time. Also check for bad components, caps etc. YouTube North Northridge fix. He has a few videos on usb drive repair.

Different methods to “fix USB flash drive cannot open”. Try the USB Drive on Another PC/Laptop. Try to Recover Files from USB Drive. Reinstall USB Controllers. Provide the USB to Drive An Alternate Path. Format the USB. This May Work, Peter
