i work as a chef, and i drop my iphone into the cooking oil, everything works fine only the microphone and the speaker got trouble. the sound from loudspeaker lil bit unclear, and when i make a call, my partner can’t hear my voice clearly n so weak sound. any want can help please,.what should i do ?

Well, the oil isn’t conductive, so you wouldn’t have shorted anything. It sounds like the speakers are just gummed up with oil. You can replace them, or if you are feeling adventurous, and since you have little to lose, you could remove the speakers and try to clean them using some kind of solvent/degreaser. I would not recommend using dish soap, as it is very viscous and would likely cause problems similar to the ones you are experiencing already. Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

The speaker, earpiece and mic on the iPhone 4 are all connected to the logic board with contacts. Exposed squares of metal on the board which the mic is pressed against, instead of solder or plug connections. It seems reasonable that grease got on these contact pads and are disruption the signal. I suggest you take the phone apart and clean each contact pad. Our resident Electrical Engineer suggests rubbing alcohol and careful light scrubbing with a toothbrush.

i dare to post my problem here, which has already been solved. you might find it useful dropped into olive oil mixture, now very low sound…… basically, be very careful, when taking the thing apart…

Try using the ear buds and mike that comes with the phone. At least you will be able to hear and talk clearly.

I dropped my iphone in oil also.Everything is ok expect there is large oilstain marks (like pockets of oil) inside the screen and everything is a lot darker. I went to the iphone store, they said they will swap the iphone for me,and will charge me 149 dollar, lots of money!

just toss it. It’s toast.

Try putting your mouth in the speaker and suck the air from it… kinda stupid, but it worked on mine. ???
