When I hit the power button I hear a chime, I have a blank screen with lots of lines
This sounds like it is either an issue with the graphics processor of your laptop, or the display (LVDS/DP) connection between the logic board and the LCD panel. I need to more information about your laptop, though. If you could provide the year and model number that would be helpful.
