Chosen Solution

Well, we have sugar ants in our house (which we’re used to, there are not a ton of them, they show up when the weather or rain patterns change) but for the first time in 20 years I have a serious problem with them. One was inside my 2017 5K iMac last week and it crawled around until it died. I just noticed a second one roaming around. If this was my older iMac, I would just take the screen glass off with suction cups. Is it worth taking the display apart? I doubt it is a large scale infestation…I think they are just a couple of scouts.

I’m surprised the ants found their way into the display! Its best to leave things alone! Your only real option is replacing the display, Ouch! These displays are well sealed and just not easy to open without making more of a mess. Is the system covered by AppleCare+ still? You might see if Apple will replace the screen.
