I ordered the screen assembly from Ifixit.com Not my first rodeo. Done this several times. Home button not recognized after replacement. Worked before, has no physical damage. Could this be defective screen assembly? I’m going to order the replacement home button, but I don’t think that will fix my problem.

Absolutely the screen could be the cause; it is the most common problem with home button failure on the 7 series after a screen or battery change. It is usually caused by a faulty flex they only need a micro tear to disable them. Sometimes the tear is that tiny you need magnification to spot it usually occurs on the 90 degree bend.

Are you not able to salvage the original Home Button? It’s better to keep the original Home Button if you can otherwise you’ll lose the TouchID feature.
