I had several keys not working, so i replaced the keyboard…seemingly without fail. But now the plug attached to the body lights up orange, then green…..but pushing the power button gets nothing.

Did you test the keyboard before fitting? Have you rechecked the connection, to make sure it is all the way inside the connector, and the flap is down? Could be a faulty keyboard if you did not check this beforehand. If none of the above, you have either damaged the keyboard whilst fitting, or damaged the board (assuming you have checked all connectors).

The system you have is a bit of an odd duck ;-} Apple had two variations in the Mid 2009 15" models. This one is the 2.53 GHz unit which used a different body. To add to this the Upper case also has two variations: Top Case w/Keyboard, Glossy 661-5244 Top Case w/Keyboard, Anti-Glare 661-5297 So you do need to get the correct one. I have never found a workable keyboard sub assembly for this series so if you got one make sure its for this system I suspect you got the wrong one (you’ll need to get the uppercase). OK how to isolate this down? I would disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable and connect the MagSafe adapter to the system, then use the power pads to see if I could start up the system. Use a screw driver to short across these two pads:

Did the system start up? If it did you have the wrong keyboard, if not you need to figure out whats still wrong with the system.
