I spilled coffee on my Samsung XE500C13-KO4US now it shows it’ s got power but does not turn on I have no idea how to handle this or what I should do please help.
You need to shut it off immediately and disconnect it from power. If you can remove the battery, go ahead and do so. Afterwards, take it to a local repair shop that can open it up and diagnose it. Treating liquid damage is like treating a stain. You don’t put rice on a stain, you treat it immediately.
Hi, As you know liquids and electronics and electricity are not a good mix. The impurities in the liquid causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the laptop’s operating design and could damage the components. First do not try to charge or to turn on your laptop and then remove the battery as soon as possible to prevent any further damage. Next you need to dis-assemble the rest of the laptop and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and any remaining liquid etc. Do not use “rubbing alcohol” as in some cases this is <70% IPA, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it, check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better. Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the boards. You will have to remove any shields and heat sinks covering the components as the liquid may have got in under them as well and also disconnect and clean any cable ends/cable connectors. Hopefully after you have done all this the laptop might possibly work correctly again. If you experience problem after this with the keyboard you may have ot replace the keyboard as you can cause more problems than what you had before with it when trying to fix it. Here is a video that shows the teardown of the laptop which may be of some help. If this process seems too daunting, take your laptop to a reputable, professional laptop repair service, experienced in water damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.
