My CRT tv set was turning the volume up by itself so I removed the bad IC responsible for the issue. Afterwards it wouldn’t turn on anymore. Not sure if I ruined the TV while removing the IC or if it just wasn’t turning on because the IC wasn’t there, I reconnected the IC. After plugging it in the fuse blew up. Did I connect the IC backwards? Will my TV be fine if I replace the fuse or is it dead for good now?

IC’s have an indicator mark. Either a dot or a difference in the physical makeup indicating what is pin 1. If the fuse blows remove the IC, if it was soldered in there’s a possibility you shorted some trace. Check the printed circuit board very carefully. Once you have determined there are no shorts and the IC is not installed replace the fuse and turn it on. If the fuse doesn’t blow this time try to reinstall the IC. Turn the power on again. If it blows again there is a good chance the IC is shorted. Buy a new one and try again.
