It’s not leaking or overflowing, but on laundry days my septic tank fills up too fast. Same top load Samsung washer for years, but this has only been a problem the last month.

Is this possible or common? What are the likely culprits?

That’s not possible. Sounds way more like a septic tank problem. Is your septic system serviced and pumped regularly? Do you dump a lot og grease down your kitchen drains? Lot’s of “no no’s” go down the drain? do you have teenagers in your home? They like to flush things down toilets…..

How’s your drainfield look? Have you had a lot of rain recently? All questions to consider….

It might have something to do with the machine trying to get the proper water temperature when it fills up. If the water is too cold, it will try to add hot water, but if there is no hot water in the hot water tap, it will keep trying. It has a thermometer and will display a temperature error if this happens repeatedly but sometimes, after running the hot water tap long enough, it will get the hot water it was looking for and run the load. If i press the temperature selection on my samsung top loader enough times, eventually all the temperature selection lights turn off and it looks as if no temperature was selected. This is the “tap cold” setting. It uses only the cold water from the tap and doesn’t adjust (because even the “cold” setting measured so the temperature can be adjusted to the proper degrees) . Try and run a load on this setting and see if it still uses too much water. This should confirm if its a water temperature/thermistor issue. This is just a theory tho! was having the same problem on my samsung washer.
