I wrote with Sharpie like an idiot months ago, and I googled earlier how to get Sharpie off a surface, and I saw nail polish remover. I folded a little bit of toilet paper and gave it a good amount of polish remover. I let it sit on the drawn surface for about 8 seconds. I took it off and the bottom of the TP was stuck. It was peely for 5 seconds and now it’s stuck there.
Hi @egraye06 , Try using a soft toothbrush moistened with Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) and see if the paper can be gently scrubbed off. Do not pour on the IPA as it may seep through to the motherboard via any gaps in the case and cause problems. Even IPA conducts electricity when it is wet. It does evaporate fairly quickly so you may have to bear this in mind when trying to remove the paper. Note: Even though the laptop may be switched off, there is always power available at certain parts of the motherboard. The power button is not a power isolating switch. Its function is to signal the BIOS/OS what the user wants to happen. Think of the laptop as being in an extremely low power state when it is off and that it is not totally isolated from the battery power. What is the make and model number of the laptop? Knowing this may help to find the service manual so that you may be able to remove the palmrest assembly from the laptop which would mean that you could attempt to remove the paper more vigorously and also be sure that you won’t cause any problems.
Sorry too hear that, I wouldn’t used nail polish remover, I would. Have got a lil Carburetor cleaner spray it on a lint free cloth rub it real fast & I’m positive it would have taken sharpie off!! All u can try too unstick button, is lil WD 40 LET IT SIT A 5 MINS OR SO, get something too fit where buttons stuck, pry gently around button, lifting up / repeat several times, what happen polish remover melted the plastic button & possibly sum parts internally/ Hope Not, but try my method/ u have all too WIN & NOTHING TOO LOSE??
