Chosen Solution

hi I am new to this but fairly practical. i have bought a late 2009 27 inch iMac and want to give it a ‘boost’. Looking at the forums, it seems that ‘more memory’ and changing the drive to a SSD are my 2 options. Can anyone advise on which to do first/ which kit to buy? Thank you in advance!

Yes upgrading the ram and HDD to SSD will be great. I have one with a i7 and 20GB of ram and haven’t upgraded to a SSD yet. Mine runs great without a SSD but it’s almost time for me to upgrade too.

If your machine is maxed out spec wise. It is always a good idea to de-install any programs you don’t use regularly. Software sitting within the library, can be buggy. Background processing slows everything down. The bigger your system folder the slower your computer will run. It is best to use software to make sure it deletes associated system files. I use cleanmymac. There are others out there. Another thing people overlook. Is having folders of thousands of files on the desktop. Use aliases & file the folders within the documents or on external drives. It really works, honestly.
