My Samsung in refrigerator ice maker works and makes ice but makes a knocking noise just prior to dumping the ice. Why? Do I have to replace it or can it be repaired?

It’s the motor or the gears, neither of which is repairable. You can live with it till it fails and then replace or replace it now.
