Chosen Solution
Hi, I have a 2013 iMac 27” i7 model that has an issue with I believe the RAM judging by the 3 beeps its giving. I tested all the memory separately and also tried other modules of RAM in different slots from other working iMacs but still won’t power on and 3 beeps. Have already done reset SMC, tested a different cable but no luck. Would anyone know if it could be an issue with the logic board? The iMac was in sleep mode and then the next day restarted in the afternoon so something must have triggered it to restart and start beeping. Any suggestions of help are much appreciated, please. Thanks kindly :)
Make sure you are using the correct RAM - PC3L-12800 - 204 pin, DDR-3L, 1600 MHz Update (12/20/2021) Adrian - How could this affect your RAM?
It only connects to the DAC logic on the logic board which connects to the PCH chip, The RAM connects directly to the CPU. The few SMT devices are noise suppression capacitors and a resistor for ESD protection.
The RAM was not the problem and the solution is that it was faulty audio/headphone jack connected to the logic board. Unplugging it from the logic board and iMac boots perfectly, plugging in the faulty audio/headphone jack and RAM beeps. If anyone experiences this swap the audio/headphone jack if you can’t resolve this issue by testing other memory to work.
