Dear all This iMac was donated to me by my father, and I’m determined to repair and upgrade it. COVID has ruined my offline business so, I’m now pointing in a different direction. This iMac needs to be used for web design and other such activities. I already have a MacBook Air 2017, which could aid in the restoration of the iMac. What I would like to do is, top up the RAM, upgrade to SSD, upgrade video card and CPU. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have little experience with repairing computers, although I’m fairly competent when it comes to following technical instruction. If there are any here that would be willing to give me some advice, as to what steps I need to take, I’d be very grateful. Here are the results of the ‘Apple genius bar’ diagnostic test and Technician’s notes. Problem Description/Diagnosis Issue: iMac is booting with Apple logo and then restarting after loading bar and just loops, also there are vertical green lines Steps to Reproduce: Verified issues Managed to run video test which passed Also MRI all passed Storage diagnostics failed to run Attempted twice Loads to grey screen Cosmetic Condition: NA Proposed Resolution: Positioned as Mac is an obsolete model unable to repair any hardware Potentially could have iMac plugged into external monitor to bypass green lines Could attempt a clean restore if OS or create a external bootable version of OS New hard drive might be needed, worse case scenario logic board Resolution: Service Denied Reason: Desired Repair Type Unavailable Hard Drive Size: 1000 Memory Size: 4096

The GPU on this model is a know issue and was the subject of an Apple recall in the past. Hook it up to and external monitor and see if you get the same results. If so, replace the GPU. Do not get a used one as it will be subject to the same issue. Here’s the one I use for replacement: NEW 661-5969 661-5968 Video Card AMD HD 6970M 2GB For iMac 27" Mid 2011 A1312 https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-661-5969-66
