Imac 27i EMC 2429 My iMac suddenly won’t boot anymore. When starting up you can hear the normal drive spin and short hd ‘chirp’ but then nothing. It does not produce the startup chime, so something must be wrong with the hardware. My usb devices do not get power either (as they don’t light up), so I cannot get to a hardware test or anything. Removing the memory gives the 5s no memory beeps. How can I figure out what is wrong with my iMac? I have built a dozen computers myself so I am not afraid to open it up. But is there much that can be done without having spare parts around? I would prefer to order the failing parts and replace them myself, but I cannot just order every part to try them out. So what can I do?

First disconnect all added devices. Try an SMC reset: SMC RESET Shut down the computer. Unplug the computer’s power cord from both the wall and computer. Wait 15 seconds. Attach the computers power cable. Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer. Does your machine have the AMD Radeon 6970M Video Card?
