I accidentally hit my display screen, not enough to crack the screen but enough to cause the screen to go completely black. When I spoke to Apple support they determined that it was a hardware problem. I would like to know if it is possible to replace the part needed to have the display work properly again, if so, what part is needed. Thank you

You jumped over what I stated “Connect an external monitor via a mDP/ThunderBolt to HDMI (or what ever your monitor/TV needs) are you able to see an image on the external?” Not a TB cable between your MacBook Pro to the iMac! Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable OK, lets do this you need to put your iMac into Target Disk Mode so you can then access its drives via your MacBook Pro. That will at least get to your files. That won’t diagnose whats going on with your iMac other to see if it even is responsive which I think you’ve proved already.
