Hi, My iMac makes the chime boot and the fan is running but the screen won’t turn on. I conect it to an external monitor and it shows me a white screen with a question mark inside a folder and it doesn’t run the OS.. Is there a solution for this issue?
Sounds like you have two problems. The first one is that it can’t find a valid operating system. Fixing this one may rectify the second problem so go of it first. Leave the external monitor plugged in for now. Boot up holding down the Option key and see if you can select the Repair Partition. If so run Disk Utilities on the drive. If nothing shows up, then boot from your original system installation disk, go to the second page of the install when the pull down menu appears and run disk utilities. If that fails you will need to replace the hard drive. Meanwhile tell us if the internal LCD lit up when booting from the DVD.
