I have a surface laptop, Gen 1 - Model 1769. I received it with a fresh windows install but keyboard and most drivers were not installed. I was able to update drivers for most things succesfully however whenever the Intel display driver is installed the screen goes blank and it isn’t possible to get it to display. I can fix temporarily by booting into safe mode and deleting the Intel driver. The touch screen, camera and brightness adjustment also doesn’t work which I presume is related. I have tried reinstalling windows multiple times and have used the Surface recovery images, all with no success. As soon as windows installs the display driver the display goes blank. The backlight is still on. It seems to be a software/driver issue but I can’t figure out. Please help.
Have you tried a manual. Driver update or only windows “Automatic” Update ie search for new drivers? If not, I’d try downloading this one I believe, but you can go to this page and verify your model. The first link is for Surface Laptop Studio running Windows 10, if that isn’t you, use the second link. If no joy, let me know and I’ll see what else I can turn up. By the way if this works you can expect recurrences updates will likely replace them. So hang on to the installer or just back up the drivers you need. This download is ALL the drivers. If you install a program like speccy which will identity your graphics processor, you can then search for drivers for it specifically rather than by model which might turn up a driver thatwill work.
I have isolated the problem to a faulty screen. I don’t know why it exhibits the odd display driver fault but after trying another screen everything works fine. Note that the touch and display are connected to motherboard via the same cable so there’s no way to isolate touch problems from the display without pulling display apart.
