Hi there, I have an odd problem: I recently left my MacBook Pro late-2016 in the car over night, while it was freezing. At first it worked well, but after a while the screen started flickering to a degree that it became unusable. When I attach the machine to an external monitor, though, it works perfectly fine. The screen also works when I reboot the computer in safe mode without attached to an external monitor. Any ideas what might be the issue and how to solve it? Many thanks!
I’d say this is very odd indeed! OK so the external display works cleanly, yet the internal flickers. If you put the system in Safe mode the internal screen works correctly. So what is different here is the displays frequency! Unlike the 15” model the 13” model only has the intergraded graphics engine within the CPU (Iris Graphics 550), So when you put the system in Safe Mode you are reducing the display from 2560 by 1600 to 1280 by 800, basically, lowering the frequency. So what is the cause of this failure? The T-CON board is what physically controls the LCD and depending on what it is told by the graphics engine will alter the frequency. The T-CON is part of the display assembly MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly and it actually quite easy to replace!
