Hi there I really have a big problem, I have an internal storage HDD 3TB which was fine until a couple of days before At some point when I restarted my imac it disappeared and the disk utility announced me that a hardrive is uninitialized I tried everything to remount the drive back but no success: erase first aid reinstall OS different recovery software etc. The disk utility list shows an internal drive ST3000DM001 Media 4.14 GB and in the terminal there is a disk0 showing as a 4.1Gb (I listed below the content ) I tried to erase / format this ST3000DM001 Media but I get the error: “unable to write to the last block of the device operation failed” I am really at a loss, is there any chance to recover this HDD? I can’t take it easily out, as the iMac has the LCD glued to the body :( see below the available info Thank you in advance for help!
/dev/disk0 (internal, physical): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: *4.1 GB disk0 /dev/disk1 (internal): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme 121.3 GB disk1 1: EFI EFI 314.6 MB disk1s1 2: Apple_APFS Container disk2 121.0 GB disk1s2 /dev/disk2 (synthesized): #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: APFS Container Scheme - +121.0 GB disk2 Physical Store disk1s2 1: APFS Volume System 83.0 GB disk2s1 2: APFS Volume Preboot 47.7 MB disk2s2 3: APFS Volume Recovery 1.0 GB disk2s3 4: APFS Volume VM 2.1 GB disk2s4
Try erasing the the disk using Disk Utility and then select the Security Options box and do a secure erase. This will generally inspect every block and map out the bad ones in the directory and make the disk usable again.
Sadly, you really don’t have much of a choice here. Reformatting the drive is your last hope. It’s possible the drive failed.
