Chosen Solution

Hey! I recently encountered a problem with my iPad Air 2 (Cellular+Wi-Fi A1567) after restoring to the latest iOS 12.1.1. My device could not be activated because the activation information is invalid in iTunes. So now my device a not usable, I couldn’t activate using WiFi as the antenna has broken. What I found when I was playing around: iTunes, the “Model Identifier” Was wrong as it shows iPad5,3 instead of iPad5,4 (which is mine)Under “Regulatory” there it also displayed the wrong model number(A1566 EMC 2822) Please see the images(https://imgur.com/a/4yBr4Zt) for more information(Sorry i can’t get the picture of the back of the iPad) I tried the iTunes restore & update function in both recovery mode and normal mode. Is there a fix for that? Apple repair cost me $400+ in my country which is going to cost me an arm and a leg. That’s why asking for help here. Thank in advance!

First of all make sure iTunes is up to date and try activating again. Try updating the iPad using 3Utools (iOS 12.1.1 is the latest version at the moment). Looking from the model number from back of iPad from your photos the iPad in question is a iPad Mini 4.

Hong, as Ben said, it is best to attempt a restore using 3U Tools. While 3U may also fail to restore your device, at least it will provide more information. Most likely, 3U tools is going tool fail somewhere around 80% when it is flashing the modem firmware. This is an indication that the modem hardware is faulty. Modem issues are responsible for many of the iTunes activation issues, though more often with iPhones. If it is a modem failure, they are among the most difficult motherboard repair jobs. You would need to find a local repair shop that is experienced in microsoldering. Apple may still be the better option at this point. Since Apple is helps to solve this issue, they would immediately give your a new iPad for your $400. The local shops will need days or weeks for an actual repair and $150-300 would be a fair price.

I have the same issue with an iPad Air 2 Wifi+Cellular. Apple support was a complete waste of time

op did you find a solution after all?
