Hello, I have a problem with my iPhone 4S. Suddenly three days ago it gets hot without any reason. After some tests I can tell you that it gets hot when

  • the screen is on (even with iphone in airplane mode)
  • the iPhone is charging (and screen is off). Note that the warm side is the motherboard side. When not charging and screen off , it is OK (cold). To be sure that it is a hardware problem, I restored the iphone with the latest iOS (from 7.1.2 to 8.3) and the behavior is the same. It doesnt seem to be a software problem. Have you any idea about this issue ? thanks Sergio

Can you observed any liquid damages on logic board? if answer yes : clean the logic board and try if answer No, Check with anther Display module and let me know the result (according to your description i think fault coming from your LCD backlight or backlight driver)

Thanks for your reply. Not sure it could be that. when charging the screen is off but iphone hot. at the moment I do nothing because the iPhone is usable as it is. I will see next week-end. [Edit] The component which overheats is just under the A5 chip. It seems to be a chip called D1815A4-C23-VAN2 (but obviously not sure). I dont know what it is. Some russian site sell it ! http://i-chasti.ru/iphone-4/98--iphone-4
