I changed the battery on my iPhone 5S about a week or two ago because the original one was bulging. Note that when I changed it, I noticed that although I had ordered the exact battery for my phone, the connector wire was a little longer than the original. I was able to plug it in anyway and everything seemed fine, I don’t know if it matters but I thought I’d mention it. Anyway, everything seemed to be OK, battery and phone seemed to be working fine, great charge. Until yesterday, when my phone started turning off by itself for no reason. The battery is not dead when it turns itself off, it did it 10 minutes ago and I have a good 90% charge, I don’t know why it does it. I’ll try to use it and I’ll notice it’s off so I need to restart it. It sometimes doesn’t do it for a few hours, sometimes it does it after an hour or so or even less. I’d like to know what’s going on. I tried to reset it and restore it via a backup and it still does it. Should I try to reset it and not restore via a backup to see if it’s a software issue? Or could it be the battery that’s damaged somehow? Like I said it’s brand new, I received it a couple of weeks ago… Thanks for any help you can provide.
Hey Olivier Sorry to hear about your iPhone, this doesn’t sound like a software issue that would require a restore. I would definitely recommend backing up your iPhone incase the phone shorts. However, this sounds more so a hardware issue with the battery. If the battery connector was to long to reach the plug on the iPhone’s Logic Board, that means the battery you ordered isn’t compatible. Meaning that you don’t have the right model battery for your phone. All iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices run on model numbers such as A1660 for an iPhone 7. To find yours open the settings app>general>about>tap the model tab, this gives you the model number of your iPhone. Use the model number to identify the correct model battery you need. Once you receive the correct battery reinstall the battery into the iPhone and you should be all set. Since your problem seems to be lack of power. This usually results contact issues with the batteries cable, they cannot be bent, pinched, or exposed. The cable should fit nice and snug between the battery and the Logic Board. Hope this helps and good luck!
Hey Stephen, thanks for your answer. Yeah, that’s what I did when I ordered the battery. My iPhone model is A1533 (iPhone 5S, 16 GB). So I matched that model with battery part # IF124-002-1 (replacement battery only). And that’s what I ordered. If I received the wrong battery, I think it’s because there was a mixup with my order by iFixit. :-( How do I get it fixed? Thanks, Olivier
Possible battery is faulty or the connectors are not plugged in correctly Also check that the lcd is also seated in properly
Note that when it’s in use (like for example if I’m listening to music) it won’t shut off. It only shuts off if it’s not being used if it makes sense… so it seems like it could be software related… There was a software update recently, could it be linked?
Something else that’s interesting: it shut itself off this afternoon and when I restarted it, at first the battery indicator was red, like the battery was pretty much empty, but after a few seconds it updated and the battery indicator went back to 50% or so, so the real battery charge. So it looks to me that somehow at some point the phone gets the impression - however that can happen - that the battery is drained and shuts down like it would if it was, but it isn’t… so the phone is reading the battery level wrong somehow. Seems like it could be software-related. I’m doing a DFU restore to see if it helps…
Didn’t help :-( So I guess it’s the battery? I don’t know. I know I ordered the right one…
