So I got a second-hand iPhone 5S. It has very very low use and no sign of wear, was bought new in 2016. (Crazy, I know). The phone was dropped around 6 months ago from a very high altitude and even though that caused it a small spot on the screen, the AUX port wasn’t working and the back camera/flashlight wasn’t working, everything else was. So I got it, and after a WEEK of use, touch ID randomly stopped working, so I decided to update it to iOS 12 and see if it works but nope. No dice. It randomly stopped working. Fast forward to a week. I was charging my phone with a 3rd party cord (yeah, I know. I was actually waiting to get a certified cord) and it was charging! I go to sleep thinking I’d still have my phone next morning but nope! I woke up to my phone being absolutely 100% dead. Okay. I thought it was the cord that was finally dead. But I try to charge it with 4 different cords and absolutely nothing happens. It doesn’t charge. I try pressing the home+power button. Nothing. What could it be? I have a spare 5S with 4013 iTunes error. Do you think the charging port could be broken? Did that 3rd party cord kill my phone? I can’t afford a new one…

I can’t afford a new one… Here are a couple free ideas: Inspect the Lightning connector at the bottom of the iPhone for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. Clean out the dock connector very carefully with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the dock connector is broken, you will have to replace it. iPhone 5s TroubleshootingTry reseating the lightning/dock connector to the logic board. While you’re at it, check for any damage (bent pins, water damage) and debris. You can also clean the lightning/dock connector and socket with isopropyl alcohol. As always, be sure to disconnect the battery from the logic board before doing any of this. (I would also repeat this for the battery connector) iPhone 5s Lightning Connector Replacement Do you know if your other 5S’s battery is good? Why not try swapping your 5S batteries. You could do this with the dock/lightning connectors too.

Did you try to unplug the battery then put it back and press the power and home button?
