My dad isn’t really into technology and just makes calls thats why he still has that phone so please dont attack me. Anyways, when I call him, all you hear is a very loud hissing noises and I believe one of the mics are broken. I have done some research and did the troubleshooting. During phone calls and facetime calls, there is just a loud hissing. I went into voice memos and could hear myself clearly, I recorded a video with the back side camera and everything was clear but once I tested the front one, I heard the noise. Siri also does not work as well as speech to text on messages. I read online that microphone that is used for calls is different from the one that is used for front camera videos, could it be that 2 microphones are broken? Let me know what microphone(s) I should buy so I can replace. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I just took a look at the apple resources for this there is in fact three mics on the iphone 6 one is a grey bar at the top of the iphone 6 at the center just above the screen, one is to the right of the headphone jack on the bottom left and the other is on the back of the phone by the camera sensor just to the right but before the white disk which is the cameras flash generator. I don’t know which of the mics is the issue, I would recommend taking an ESD safe brush and very gently attempt to remove any debris that could be in the mics and to also try some air, a can of condensed is likely not required for this just a air puffer or the like. If that does not work try to restore the phone to factory settings if again that fails a apple authorized service center can replace your receiver for $79 if I recall correctly.

I know the earpiece mic is used for Siri. Generally the bottom mic is used for calls. Does the phone work with speakerphone? As Ben said, you can try cleaning the mics. The bottom mic can get lots of dust build up. And if it ever got wet this can happen too.

its been a while mariano but i am facing the same problem and came across your question. my problem is that the mic is working but when i talk,It sounds like i am very far to the other person (my voice is barely audible. but when i talk directly on the mic.it normal. i changed the whole flex assembly. :( it didnt work i cleaned the whole mic assembly.(i even took out the bottom mic guard(which usually gets dirty) and still the same problem !!! can you lead me on this project please

I would replace the charging port which has the headphone Jack and microphone in it. It only has one Microphone. It has two speakers which people are confusing them with. You can buy the part for about 5 dollars and it’s not that hard to do. You can follow ifixit videos
