Hi, so my girlfriend dropped her iPhone 6S Plus in water for a brief second a couple days ago whilst we were out, we were no where near home so I couldn’t open the phone up etc. She carried on using her phone after I told her many times not to and she ended up putting it on charge which I also told her not to do, I told her to switch it off. We got home a day later (because we stayed out) and I open the phone to check for water damage, to my expectations there was water inside the phone, obviously. I disassemble the device further to check the motherboard for water damage and there was a bit of corrosion on the other side of it so I cleaned it off IPA, I let it dry for a few hours and then connected it all back up and the phone was still no power although it’s drawing 0.38 AMPS on my current reader. Today I’ve just replaced the battery and the charging port and still it’s drawing 0.38 AMPS, does anyone have an idea what it could be?
I’d start by trying a known good charging port. Board only, battery and charging dock, and nothing else connected. If you still have this issue, your boards needs attention. If your charging comes back to normal, then you can isolate the suspect: charging port, screen, home button, front cam, etc. If your board need attention: anything really may have failed at this point. At least try and examine the corroded area. Look for shorted caps or lines, damaged resistors, anything out of the ordinary. Next, examine the main power rails for short then for voltages. VCC_MAIN, BATT, 1V8, etc. If nothing seems off, you can consider replacing Tristar and Tigris and take it from there.
id suggest running the device through a sonic wash if you have the tools. clean out any shorts from the corrosion. you can also use deoxidizing solution as well. (i prefer De-Oxit). if you dont have access to these tools, you should resort tohiring a technician that has invested in them. if you really dont want to do that, you can always use isopropyl (99%) and a clean toothbrush to scrub at the board. (gently but diligently) and hope it gets all the corrosion. id also suggest soaking the board in it for about 10 minutes before the scrub.
