A customer brought in the phone because it died and would not charge anymore. I tested a battery and it powered on but still did not charge. After testing a few more batteries and charge ports, same issue. However the phone powers up when I plug in the cable. I performed a factory reset thinking it might be a software issue but nope. Any thoughts?

Does the iPhone display an apple logo with the battery unplugged and the charging cable plugged in? If not the tristar chip needs replacing.

Have you changed out the Tristar chip? The Tristar allows the battery to begin charging and if damaged the battery will not charge. Assuming you have because you mentioned “charge ports”. If not, then change out the Tristar chip and report back if it worked or not. ;-)
