I was recently given a fully working iPhone 8 with a broken back camera, so I wanted to try replacing it. I opened the phone up, was about to shut it off before unplugging the connectors and I noticed it was not showing anything on the screen. It was still on and still could registertouch, so I was able to shut it off. Upon inspection, I noticed that I had managed to rip one of the screen flex cables, the one in question being the one with the smaller connector. I installed a spare known good OEM screen I pulled from another iPhone, and tried turning it on. It was rather weird, where it would show the battery charging screen sometimes and sometimes not. But after reseating the screen and battery connection a few times, it came back to life. It showed the apple logo, but then it wouldn’t show any image at all, with the backlight turning on but staying black. Touch worked though, so I was able to unlock it and connect it to my laptop, so I could share the phone screen using 3uTools. It was functioning like normal, except the screen staying black. I figured maybe reinstalling the operating system would fix the issues, so I restored the phone using 3uTools. The program said the flash was successful, but this only worsened the problem. Now, it will sometimes show the battery screen, but after that it wouldn’t do anything at all. I did although notice that after showing the battery logo, upon pressing ANY button on the phone, including the mute switch, it would turn on the screen for about 10 seconds, staying completely black. Sometimes when showing the battery logo too, I have noticed that it will sometimes slowly fade away, indicating that the battery might be at fault and that breaking the flex cable maybe fried it. I then decided to try my other spare screens to see if it would change anything. I tried the original screen which still has the image connector, an aftermarket screen and an iPhone 7 screen. The original screen and the iPhone 7 screen had the exact same behavior, but the aftermarket screen showed no signs of life at all. Here is the list of things I have tried in attempt to fix the phone: Unplug everything from the logic board and reseating all connectors a few timesOnly have the necessary components plugged inUsing multiple screensCharging it for long periods of time Will a battery replacement fix the problem? Or is the logic board at fault? Any help is appreciated!
From what i understand since you ripped one of the flex cables off you may have damaged the connecter on the logic board this is most likely why your experiencing your screen issues. If you are 100% sure there is no problems with your replacement screens it is likely a logic board issue.
