Hi There! I successfully replaced the headphone jack on my 3G and it was working for a while but now the iPhone acts as if the power button is constantly pressed. This causes it to constantly restart. When I press the power button it feels like it’s being pressed properly. I took the phone apart and didn’t notice any problems with the cabling. By the way, when the phone is plugged into power it works but the sleep button will not turn it off. I have trying restoring the firmware to no avail. Any ideas? Daniel
I would only agree with the power button idea. I received a broken iPhone 2G from a friend, and it was constantly turning off and on since she had dropped it on the power button, which in turn jammed it down. I don’t know anything about the headphone jack causing it to not work, but I just thought I’d put in my two cents about the power button indeed having those issues. Sorry I couldn’t have been more help . . . . Did you ever drop it after the replacement?
It seems like you may have damaged or not correctly reinstalled the connector / assembly for the power/lock button, and maybe a reinstallation will solve the problem.
Hey Chris, Thanks for your answer. I took the phone apart to take a look at the power button and didn’t see anything wrong with it. The button is glued/stuck on to the plastic block that gets screwed under the button and when pressing the button it seems/feels like it is pressing the connector (not as if the connector is constantly pressed). I thought a maybe the connecter itself, that connects the headphone/power/volume cable to the board, was not connected properly but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Keep in mind that the phone worked for 2 weeks since the original replacement and then started resetting…. This is really bumming me out… Help me please! D
I’ve taken the phone apart 3 times now. Looked over teh ribbon with a magnafying glass, it all looks OK. Ideas? D
