my iphone 7 was showing a “sim failure” error on the phone and would not connect to the carrier. thinking this was a software bug i installed 11.4.1 the phone never rebooted and is now stuck in recovery mode. When trying to recover the phone on itunes i get the error “iphone could not be restored an unknown error occurred (-1)” searching the web this appears to be a firmware issue. is there a way to down grade or recover any of the data from the phone or force the update?
I get errors like this very often in iTunes. I would recommend using the application “Apple Configurator 2” and restore it that way. I’ve had multiple devices give me all kinds of codes in iTunes and AC2 has successfully restored nearly all of them. Good luck!
