Chosen Solution
Original battery was replaced with crap no-name battery that swelled up, actually pushing the case apart. Replaced battery with ifixit battery, now phone is in slow reset loop - black screen for 5 minutes, then white screen with black apple for 2 seconds, then black screen for 5 mins, etc.
Restore via iTunes and see any error shows then you got a solution following the error.
