Hi! I left my iphone to drain the night before and somehow It wont charge. I’ve left my phone charging for about 5 hours already on the wall and still nothing. Charging was actually fine before it drained and my original chord and wall adaptor is good as well since I tried to charge my iPad too. I’ll also note that I’ve tried the heating up method, no results but I’m not giving up yet. one more thing, for some reason my phone doesn’t show the low battery icon when the phone is drained since IOS 11. (might help maybe)

If you do not get an apple logo then the Tristar chip (Charging IC) needs to be replaced. This chip controls basically the charging circuit and if it is faulty it will cause phones to not charge when the battery is flat and most of the time the phone will still charge if the battery isn’t flat. If you still get an apple logo however consider replacing the battery as it is most likely short circuited / gone bad. iPhone 5s Battery So for tristar chip replacement that will require micro-soldering you will need to look for a reputable store that does micro-soldering / board-level repairs for iPhones. Good ones usually offer a no-fix no-fee model. Tristar chip going bad is usually caused by a combination of the following:

  • Use of non-MFI certified cables
  • Use of cheap car chargers
  • Use of cheap wall chargers

Simply heat up a pressing iron to max temperature, unplug the heated pressing iron, wrap your iPhone in a clothe, to avoid direct contact between the phone and the hot pressing iron, rest the hot pressing iron on the wrapped iPhone (the back of the iPhone not the front where the screen is) for 2-3 mins, this will energise the battery. Press the home button afterwards, if the battery icon appears, plug your phone to the wall charger and allow the phone to charge.
