So I’ve been working on an iPhone 8 Plus with a cracked screen. Replaced it for an aftermarket screen first and transferred the home button over. Home button and Touch ID worked fine, however I just then realized that display didn’t support True Tone / EEPROM programming. So I’ve got a genuine refurbished one instead. Applied some heat on the home button again to get it loose, transferred it over. Screen and True Tone now works fine - however the home button doesn’t work at all suddenly. The iPhone recognizes the Home Button and offers me to use Touch ID. However, neither does the Home Button click nor does it scan my finger. Due to it not clicking I first thought the U10 would be broken, but seeing as it doesn’t scan my fingerprints either I suspect something else is going on. Would this definitely be the flex cable or possibly something else? BTW: I’ve also tried the button on the aftermarket screen again afterwards. On there it still works.

If TouchID is working on the aftermarket screen then it should be pretty obvious that the refurb display is defective, which does happen from time to time. Contact the supplier and get them to warranty it.
