Hey all, First time poster but a seasoned fixer. My buddy dropped his iPhone X and stated that his screen is cracked near the forward facing camera and the forward camera is also not working. I had him order a new screen and also a new front camera flex cable in case it was damaged from the drop. Fast forward to the screen replacement. The screen was installed and the battery needed to be removed to install the flex cable. I attempted to remove the adhesive but as usual luck the adhesive battery tabs broke. I told him to order a battery in the event the pry method damaged the oem battery. So for this fix I only replaced the screen. Powered on the phone and received the face ID error about being unable to activate. I did reset the face ID w/o any success. I did do some research and have since purchased and awaiting to receive the JC-V1 programmer to clone the oem screen and write to the aftermarket to hopefully address that error and the true tone issue. A week later I was able to get the phone back and remove the OEM battery by prying and it did not appear it was damaged in anyway (i’ll address this later) and was able to remove the OEM flex cable assembly and install the aftermarket one. I installed the new aftermarket battery and powered on the phone. Once it was loaded up it was discovered that the rear camera now does not work as well as the front camera. I then put back in the OEM flex cable and the rear camera worked again however, the front did not. I told my buddy that I would do some research and try to come up w/ something and left the new battery in the phone. My buddy contacted me the next day and said the phone is overheating and shutting off over a dozen times a day if not more. Sometimes it charges fully and other times it does not. He said the phone is very laggy any having terrible issues w/ the new battery. Today i opened the phone back up and put the OEM battery back in and turned it on. The phone showed 0% battery. I attempted to charge it w/ OEM and non-oem chargers and did not have any luck it would vibrate when plugged in however would not sue the lightning bolt or give a battery status percentage. I then put the aftermarket battery back into the phone and attempted to charge the phone prior to sealing it back up and it showed 46% and charging. I then powered the phone down and put it all back together. Once powering it back on the battery bar showed red and I could not get it to charge when plugged in. My buddy said its been doing this quite often since the new battery and it will power off a few times and then the battery will show half charged etc. I ordered an ifixit battery today and will install that once it arrives hopefully, that will address the battery issue. Once the JC-V1 arrives i will clone the OEM screen and hopefully the will address the true-tone / face ID issue. My big mind boggler is the forward camera. Does anyone have any insight to any of this issues or fixes? Any help is greatly appreciate! Thank you! Peter
First off if you change the front camera face Id will not work. If you damage the cable going to the earpiece speaker/proximity sensor or change it face Id will not work. Now it sounds like you damaged the contacts on the split board from dropping it. I would recommend you send it in and have it repaired by a professional microsolder like jessa from ipad rehab ipadrehab.com or Jason from sts telecom ststelecom.com. make sure that you put all of the original cameras and sensors. The screen doesn’t matter except if you bought an LCD screen instead of OLED screen. It can cause the phone to possibly get hot and melt the screen connections and cables. It wasn’t designed to use a LCD screen. Put in a good aftermarket battery. And a hint next time you change the battery on a apple phone I would heat the back up but not to hot. It will make the battery adhesive come loose much easier. They put to much adhesive on them when they made the phone I hope this helps
