Chosen Solution

Over the weekend I picked up my iPhone X and it wouldn’t turn on. The battery wasn’t close to dying, so I was a bit confused. Tried a hard restart, no luck. Charged for awhile but no icon ever appeared on the screen. After being plugged in for ~45 min, the phone was hot, but still wouldn’t turn on. iTunes doesn’t recognize it at all. This iPhone is about 6 months old and it’s always been in a case. I’ve never dropped it from a high distance and this seemed to happen completely out of nowhere. It’s not under warranty (it replaced a previous iPhone X) and Apple wants ~$550 to replace it. I’m curious what other options I have here. Does this sound like a battery issue? If so, I’d love to mail it off for 3rd party battery replacement. Just curious which non-Apple support options might be available to me at this point.

Excess heat is an indication of a short circuit somewhere and I just had an X in my repair shop for a similar issue. You can send it to iPad Rehab or STS Telecom for repair. They both have youtube channels you can check out and board repair runs about $100-$150 depending on the issue and you can get your data back.
