Hey guys, my iPhone X suddenly went black whilst charging. It was working fine when I plugged it in to charge, then after an hour went and check on it and the screen was all black. And now it won’t turn back on. Tried to hold the power button, nothing on the screen. Tried volume up, down and power button, still nothing, just a black screen. I don’t know what’s wrong? The charging cable works fine for my other iPhone. I’ve tried connecting the phone to laptop’s iTunes, and it can’t find/recognize the phone at all… tried the volume up, down and power button whilst connected to my laptop, doesn’t work. All apple stores here is closed because of the covid19, is there anything else I can try? no water damage and did not drop phone.

Luckily for you, independent repair shops are considered essential businesses and remain open. I see issues like this with the X often and had two come in today with probably similar issues. The first one can be a bad display and you can test this yourself. The phone can remain powered on while the display is bad so if it chimes when you get a notification or plug it in, that means your display may need to be replaced, which most of us keep in stock just avoid the cheaper LCD and hard OLED variant. The Soft OLED panels are the ones you want as they’re more durable compared to hard OLED and the phone wasn’t designed to use the more power hungry LCD. Secondly could be the battery. This will require opening of the device to inspect the battery for swelling or even hooking up a tester battery.
