iFixit 3.7v 850mAh battery replacement states that it provides 30% more power, however, the capacity of the original battery is quoted as 1200mAh on many sites. So the replacement battery would be 30% less capacity. Which is correct?

Hello Mark, That’s a good question. I’ll be looking into it. Can you let me know more about your device so I know exactly what I’m researching? Just to double check, are you looking at the iPod 3rd Generation (3G) or the iPod Classic?

Hi Mark, I did some reading around different places about the compatible battery for that iPod battery (616-0159) and the best answer I can come up with is that some of the sources might be less accurate. The highest battery size I’m finding online, from trustworthy sellers, is 850 mAh. On Newegg, for example. I can tell you that all of the products we sell are screened for quality and we offer a 1 year limited warranty on our batteries. I hope this helps and let me know if I can answer any other questions!

Doesn’t really answer my question. Wanted to know the original capacity of the original battery for a 3rd Gen iPod as I believe the 30% increased capacity is incorrect. My experience would suggest a 30% decrease in capicity based on an original fitted battery of 1200mAh.
