Bought this headphone a year ago. Then the charging port fell inside the headphone so couldn’t charge it anymore. Send it back to my supplier, but they said they cannot fix it and gave me my money back… I don’t know how to fix electronic devices myself, but this definitely seemed fixable. What are your views on this situation?
Hi @jgverkerk , It should be fixable. All you have to do is to work out how to open the ear speaker which has the charge port and then re solder the micro USB port connector back onto the circuit board. It will be a smd (surface mount device) type connector, so smd soldering skills and tools would be required. There are videos on YouTube that show how to solder USB connectors back onto circuit boards. If the micro USB port is damaged and it needs to be replaced, this is a little harder because there are a lot of different types of micro USB connectors. Looking at them they all appear the same and in essence they are but the big difference (besides whether the pins are straight or 90°) is where the mounting lugs are positioned on the body of the connector and how many there are. These lugs have to match up exactly with pads on the circuit board that they’re to be used on because they are soldered onto these pads to provide the mechanical strength so that the strain is not placed on the 5 connector pins of the port. Finding the exact replacement can sometimes take longer than the repair itself. I cannot find a teardown video for the headphones which would make it easier to see how to open them but with most headphones, you first have to remove the cushion pads covering the shell and then see if the case assembly has to be prised open or if there are any screws etc. If you decide to try and fix them, create a guide whilst doing the repair and post it back on ifixit. Most repair guides found on Ifixit are created by users. Others in the future will thank you for doing this. Here’s how. How to Create a Guide
