I currently run a 2010 21.5’“ iMac which is my main workstation. it’s on it’s 2nd HD, which is an SSD, replaced in 2014 but I’ve done minimal work on this mac since then so it hasn’t been put thru the grinder like the 1st HD when I was doing a LOT of editing, grfx, etc. The only reason I’m concerned about the HD is first it is getting up there in age but also my internet browser is slowing down now literally every day it’s slower and slower to load pages. This morning was really bad. At first I thought my modem maybe was going out but then realized my 2021 MacAir is as fast as lightning; i.e., no issues whatsoever. So - not the internet or modem. Definitely an issue w the iMac. I use FF & always keep it updated. I just ran First Aid and everything checked out ok. I can replace the HD if necessary but the timing is not good now, would rather wait until this summer if possible. What else can I do to diagnose this issue? I’m not kidding about how slow it is - really dragging - sometimes the pages time out before loading which is unacceptable of course. Again, internet is fine on my other device so not the internet.

Hi Hope you are well I once had a MacBook Pro 2012 and one day it was the exact same as your Mac So I bought a ssd and replaced the hdd just to be on the safe side and It worked really well But I got curious and wiped the old drive and reinstalled macOS on it only for me to find out that all it needed was a OS reinstall this might be worth a try but I would recommend just upgrading but if you want to diagnose it further try running first aid on disk utility or download drive DX because it will tell you of the drive is going to die or not Hopefully I answered your question Any questions please ask Thanks:)
