I noticed there are many sites selling home button replacement parts for the Galaxy S3. I’ve yet to see a video where this part is removed prior to removing the display assembly from the chassis. Can this be done without removing the display (and likely destroying the display in the process)?
well i would think that if it is like every other samsung phone then no it cant be removed what ur probably thinking of is the line to the circuit board that needs to be replaced.
The home button press a small swith that is attached to a cable on the inside of the screen. It’s dead easy to take it apart, check video on youtube a guy called les5on makes grest walkthoughs. Have done it myself on S3 and galaxy Y. Do rember to ground yourwelf each time youve been moving around. Or get an antisratic wrist strap.
Hi. Dont bother changing! I use virtual homebutton and its SO good. Download app SOFTHOME start and enable. Now you have a floating green house which Is homebutton. I never use hard home as I love that ALL buttons are on screen. Good luck LisbethSighFehrmann
I too need change the home button of my Galaxy S4… help me please… any link… article…
Buuuu…. upload a video … how to change the home button Galaxy S4… please… desperate… desperate… 10… 9… 8…
Button plastic can be changed only when separating glass. If cable is broken it is a new screen assembly http://m.tmart.com/LCD-Touch-Screen-Beze… This is the reason i use SOFTHOME app. Virtual homebutton that float. Because if homebutton breaks its crap to use phone.
DISCLAIMER : THIS PROCESS MAY DAMAGE THE PHONE AND RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT IF NOT PROPERLY DONE. TRY IT ON YOUR OWN RISK I fixed the water damaged home button on my S3 by sending a bit higher current through the home button flex contacts. You can easily find those two relatively big CONTACTS ON THE SCREEN SIDE when the motherboard is removed. I used a 3V battery in series with a digital amp meter and a torch bulb(for current limiting) . Initially press the home button a bit hard and send a few pulses ( NOT LONGER THAN 1 SECOND AT A TIME ) If used for longer time it may permanently damage the flex cable or home swich , although there is no chance to affect anything else if done carefully. DON’T USE THIS FIX ON MOTHERBOARD SIDE CONTACTS )
If your home button is broken because someone has poured liquid over it (in my case beer) it might work to clean it out with some alcohol. What I did was to remove all easily removable components (motherboard etc.), poured ethanol over the home button and then tried to let the ethanol evaporate faster by heating it up with a hair dryer. Astonishingly it worked (at least in my case), even though the button is not as sensitive as it was originally. Good Luck!
You cannot remove the button without removing the glass. Removing the glass is fairly easy, only tools you’ll need is a spudger and a heat gun. Tricky part is cleaning the glass or lcd and reattaching them.
