Over the last few months, it has developed many key-cap abrasions and other imperfections that are too visible on a dark background. Also, the spline around it has begun to come out. The image itself is fine. Can the outer layer be replaced, or is it integral to the display? If it’s replaceable (I’m guessing not), where can one be obtained? Thanks.
Sadly, the anti-reflective coatings over time fail from skin oils and just abrasion from the keys. Replacing the screen is quite expensive! And many used screens are in bad shape likely yours and you’ll have a hard time finding a new one. So you can remove the rest of the coatings, the camera will have a reddish tinge as the camera now won’t have the coating to color correct it. Be careful if do this as people have killed the their screens by pressing too hard or allowing what they are using to seep under the bottom edge where there is circuitry causing corrosion damage.
