i need to know where i can buy parts for this engine. the timing is also off and runs hot.
bdcwhittle first you would have to properly identify the engine. It could be a 2.4L 4-cyl 2LT Turbo Diesel or a 2L (non-Turbo) but that is only a guess. Some off that will depend on where you are located and where that trucks comes from. The 2LT was for the US market and the 3LT for Asia and Europe etc. Same with the parts, it will depend on where you are located, but they are available. Yes, the starter is different between Gasoline and Diesel engines.
