I’m replacing the display on my iMac 27” (mid 2017). While swapping out the new display, I notice the replacement doesn’t have the same black “tape” on the back of the monitor. I think it’s there so the display back doesn’t touch any of the power components. Anyone know if this is anti-static “tape”? If so, would anyone know where I can purchase it.
Thanks!
The function is strictly Insulating to prevent an electrical pathway. Anti-static materials are conductive, and in some cases resistive as they don’t always need to be highly conductive. As an example an anti-static mat has a high resistive value to prevent lower voltage devices from shorting out, yet allow a high voltage static charge to dissipate.
