I always use my Compaq Presario with the power cord plugged in, never take it anywhere. Tonight it said the battery was low, and a few minutes later it shut off. I turned it back on and white text on a black screen said to charge the battery or plug in the power cord. The power cord was already plugged in; I clicked to continue. It started up for 10 -20 seconds then powered off again. The power cord it putting out approx. 19 volts, but it won’t start again. I unplugged & plugged it in again, the light blinked blue a few times then stopped.
Take out the laptop battery then plug it in. See if it turns on fine. If it still does then you will need to replace the battery if you want to run the laptop on battery power. By the way it’s okay to run a laptop without a battery as long as you don’t move the charger cord or the laptop (unplugging it will make the laptop shut off because no power) If you want to buy the battery search ‘Compaq Presario CQ62 battery’ on eBay. You can make sure it’s the correct battery by searching via the battery’s model number instead. The laptop model number is usually good enough in most cases.
