Hello, I have a iphone 6 with broken home button flex ripped and broken screen. I tried sending it in to apple, but they refused the repair (even payed repair) unless i paid more then i would pay for a new phone. I read on some forum that doing a restore on a iphone 6 / 6+ on which the original home button / flex is damaged, the recovery will get stuck at 50% and give error 53 in itunes and remain stuck in recovery mode forever. Currently the iphone contains data of the previous owner, but i am affraid to do a restore, since i probably will get a bricked device… Anyone has experiece on a iphone 6 with replaced home button? Does the restore still works?
The Error 53 is often related to the touch id button or problem with your computer. I found a online guide that will help you to fix iTunes error 53.
Will not work, period. you can erase all content and settings without restoring iOS, also do not upgrade your system.
hey a few days a go i had the same problem but i fixed, you need to go an store of phones they can repair the 53 error i wait 3 days to have my iphone 6 back

Maybe a dev release a customfirmware whithout checks fingerprint in kernel
Sadly, from what I’ve researched nothing much can be done unless you use the original cords
No replacing the home button yourself will not work, because each home button touch id sensor is programmed to the serial number of each iphone and not interchangeable with other iphones and not replaceable with aftermarket home buttons from eBay. Only Apple can repair this iPhone or replace the whole device. Try going again to a different genius bar, it all depends on the genius bar representatives some are nice and will help you and some won’t.
HELLOO HAPPY PEOPLE!!!! I got the same problem 2 days ago, desperate of no slution could be founded!!! Then i was looking and reading about components inside of apple device. Im the owner of 6 plus… iphone was stucked on error 53, ..ive been trying everythng,…. even i ordered new iphone 6s plus in case that this fix doesnt work! Everything what you should do is to put back original finger ID home button and replace old cable on metal peace which is connecting finger ID and motherboard. THE TIP is to NOT PUT END OF CONNECTOR IN THE " HOLE" NEAR HOME BUTTON , will be again demaged. Before u put new cable,connect the finger id and cable ( NEED TO HEAR a CLICK AS ALL IPHONE CONNECTORS) and then put metal peace on place and screw it on LCD. dont press or touch connector parts after , just gently put back the metal cover of finger id sensor … NOW HOPPEFULLY U CAN RESTORE AND USE AGAIN UR DEVICE AND BACK UP UR DATA . AND ALSO UPDATE TO 9.0.1 :)))) BOllee Update (10/20/2015) Hello everyone again. Error 53 require new flex cable and old home button. Order new one,new LCD will work with it and also u can restore IOS
Fixandinstal if u open the Iphone u should see . So please before putting here critics do something if u r able. Thank you. No other solution only to change flex cable with new one as i wrote.
If the actual home button connector is damaged the only way to stop getting error 53 is to replace the connector. This can be done by desoldering a connector from a new home button and then soldering it onto the broken one.
You need the original home button and a new flex cable
i have the original home button. and the long flex is replaced, still error 53.

If home button is broken … Pf, i think no hope… Try to connect it with new flex cable and to restore, but all will be wiped as always.

i just solve this by using original lcd with same original home button. just get a original lcd and from oher iphone if you changed the lcd and use original home flex. :)

Having this problem right this second. Phone has been in endless restart mode for hours upon hours, very angry. I-tunes was not syncing my phone after hours on tech support they said hey try to update everything and restore your phone…ok sounds good. Nope…Now my phone is in much worse condition than it was before. I dropped it a week earlier and the touch id button stopped working. …now my phone is messed up and will probably have to pay an absurd amount of money just to fix this problem over a stupid feature I rarely use that saves me 5 seconds a day. Very dissatisfied and angry.
Ive encountered this problem myself so many times too. And I cannot believe that there is nowhere that I can buy a home button that can be as good as the original. I keep believing there is a place somewhere I can find them. If I do, ill keep you posted

There are 5 screws holding together a metal plate the screens are all different sizes, the smallest screw goes in the hole on the lower right side of the metal plate if you use a longer screw you can actually stew in to the motherboard and strip a circuit leading to the TouchID connecter and you will get an error code 53 even with the original home button. i am not quite sure how to fix just yet

Finally, updating through iTunes, with the latest ios,should fix error 53. Apple finally decided to issue a fix. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205628 Update (03/14/2016) It worked for my iphone 6. The ribbon was torn right next to the original home button. The only thing is that fingerprint reader will not work, but you can use a passcode instead. I can use my 128GB iPhone again!
Yes and no,I have many iPhone 6 that got stuck at 50% restore and just happen yesterday 2 of the phone got past that 50% and fully restore and updated,tried the other two but didn’t work and today I tried with 2 6plus 1 worked the other didn’t work so I have no idea why it worked and not worked.
