I have no idea how to see the battery life and what do all the different lights mean?

You can access the user manual here: https://www.jamaudio.com/customer-suppor… page 4 lists the LED Status which are as follow: Red flash every 5 seconds  - Low batterySolid red  - ChargingLED off  - Charging completeFlash blue and red  - Pairing modeBlue flash every 5 seconds  - Paired with device Beyond that I’m not seeing anything that will give you the current battery %.
