Chosen Solution
I recently got an XBox controller, and its joystick was drifting on the Y axis. I bought a new one on eBay and tried to solder on a new one. This was my first time doing this, so I don’t know if I did it correctly. Now the controller doesn’t read the Y axis at all. Is there still hope for this controller?
@jkcoxson since this happened after you repaired it you want to check a few things. Check to make sure that your analog stick actually works. You can measure it with the ohm settings in your multimeter. After that you want to take a look at your repair. Check the solder to make sure it is properly known to the connectors and the solder pads and make sure that you have not lifted any of the solder pads. Personally I would redo the repair with a new stick and a clean the board properly with some flux and desoldering wick etc. before resoldering a new stick. Watch the heat and the duration that your are on the board with yours soldering iron. Looks kind of black burned on the north end of the board….;-) Make sure you did not smoke the other components that are on the board.
