I’m suspecting your HD SATA cable is breaking down so it created errors during the update. You’ll need to first replace the cable following this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Hard Drive Cable Replacement and use this cable: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable this is the newer version of the cable which is better. Once you’ve replaced the cable you’ll need to make a good backup as you’ll need to reformat your drive and install a fresh copy of OS following this guide: How to create a bootable macOS High Sierra installer drive
