Hi, I recently found an old MacBook from my GF that had to her knowledge ‘stopped working’. It went through some minor damage during a car accident but after worked fine for a year or so before stopping completely. When I picked it up and connected it to the adapter it started up, booted and worked for a few hours. After disconnecting the power supply it closed down and it would not start back up again. Because I noticed that the battery was very bad I ordered a new one. Also the trackpad glass was broken (but still worked) so ordered that as well. With the repair I accedentily broke the speaker connector on the I/O board. After that it would not power up anymore. So I ordered a new one and replaced the IO board. After that the MacBook booted and got into the loginscreen. But now, the trackpad and the keyboard are no longer working. An external mouse works just fine. Any ideas on how to proceed?
If neither the keyboard or the trackpad are working it’s generally a sign that the trackpad or the trackpad ribbon cable is damaged. Since you replaced the trackpad, I’m guessing the trackpad ribbon cable is the culprit. You can see the cable in step 6 of this guide. They are easy to damage, but fortunately they are fairly cheap and easy to replace. If you see any pockmarks or cuts when inspecting the cable this would reinforce this theory.
